Saying hi to everyone!

Honestly, saying hi to everyone who I've never met or known is very embarrassing assignment for me especially as a Korean. I don’t know about American people though. I remember that when I first came to this country many people said “hi, how are you?” to me even though they don’t know me. However we Korean never do that!

Anyway, when I first started this assignment at BYU campus, it was very embarrassing experience to me. When I said hi to other people, some people said hi back to me but some didn’t. The hardest thing was saying hi to girls. I was worrying about that I might look I was flirting with them.
However, as I continued to say hi to everyone I saw, saying hi to girls was more interesting and I start to realize that saying this simple greeting could acts as uplifting source for some people, maybe having a bad day. Some people were smiling when they said hi back to me. Whenever I see their smile, it was really enjoyable. I became to be grateful for this experience, and it helped me to overcome Korean culture. It was fun!

Reputation

I used to have a car 1999 Honda Civic. Such a wonderful student car ever. The car is ten years old, but when I bought it, the price was more than other company’s same year cars. That is because people like Honda Civic and also people know that Civics’ reputation is great.

I love my car. However, since I’m getting married soon and I needed some cash to by a ring for my fiancé so I decided to sell Civic and buy little cheaper car. By searching used car web site, I finally found pretty nice and affordable car for me. It was Hyundai Tiburon. I like Hyundai cars because Hyundai is Korean company and I used to drive Hyundai cars when I was in Korea. Through my experience I know that Hyundai makes nice car as Honda and Toyota. However, the price of Hyundai car is lower than any Japanese cars here. I can buy Hyundai car with two third of the price in Korea. I was wondering why the Hyundai’s price was lower than Japanese cars and my conclusion was the difference of reputation.

Honda and Toyota cars came in to America auto market long time ago and the companies showed that they have fine technology. That is how Honda and Toyota have good reputation. However, Hyundai recently came in to America auto market and they are still getting proved by people.
I like Hyundai Tiburon and if I were in Korea, I can’t buy the car because it is too expensive. However, I’m America and I’m buying this car. My family will think that I’m making a lot of money at BYU so that I can buy Hyundai Tiburon. I hope my parents still send me some money for next tuition.

OMG!! I just wanted do my assignment!!

Buying a coke for someone who we don’t know. What an interesting assignment! However, it wasn’t that easy to do that. First, I kind of worried about doing that, because I thought that I might be looked like a stranger. However, I did it, and something happened that I didn’t expect.
I was in a Wendy’s with my fiancé, and I was about to pay for my hamburger. Then, a fine young lady lined up and she ordered her menu. At that moment, I remembered the homework and I asked her if I could pay for her menu. I just told her, because I want to, but I don’t know. She refused the first time, but she let me buy her meal. I was expecting to have some conversation after that, but we didn’t have any!!! She might think that I’m such a stranger.
However, I had to have very long and long conversation with my fiancé. She was very upset about my abnormal action. She was keep asking why I bought the lady’s meal. Because I just wanted to look cool, so I told her “I don’t know why but I felt that I had to buy for her that time.” My fiancé was keep asking about whether I knew her before and all kinds of girl’s question. I just didn’t want to say, that was my homework however, my fiancé didn’t understand my weird action and got so mad at me. I guess my fiancé thought that I was interested in her or something. She was very frustrated because I was keep saying “I just wanted to buy for her.” Finally, I had to tell her before she break up with me, that that was my writing calls assignment and I explained. She seemed she got cooled down, that was very embarrassing moment. I was expecting some special experience with the lady who I bought her meal, but she just left and I almost broke up with my fiancé. I just tried to do my best doing my assignment. What a result! However, we are still in a strong relationship, so don’t worry about us Professor Clarke!

T.A.C.T. (Temperature, Agitation, Chemical concentration, Time)

My part time job gave me a hidden knowledge which I’ve never thought about before.
Currently, I am working as a custodian in BYU campus. As I got my part time job which is cleaning, I didn’t think about any elements of cleaning. Cleaning..... What an easy and routine job?? Who doesn’t even know how to clean something? However, when my supervisor explained four elements of cleaning T. A. C. T. at a meeting, I’ve realized that I can be more effective in cleaning by knowing the relationships of four elements.
First one is temperature. Each cleaning job has the best temperature to be worked out. Let’s think about washing hair. Warm temperature of water should work better. Why do you think that way?
Second one is agitation. By agitating, cleaning works better. When you wash your hair, do you agitate your hair with your hands? Why do you do that instead of leaving your hair with shampoo on it?
Third one is chemical concentration. Do you like thick shampoo or watery shampoo? If we use thick shampoo, we don’t need to use a lot of it whenever we wash our hair.
Forth one is time. How long do you leave your hair with shampoo on it? Should we leave it for 30 second or 10 minutes?

These four elements are all connected each other and very important in cleaning. We don’t have to use all four elements, but if then, we probably can’t clean effectively. However, if we understand the connection of those four elements, we can be very effective in cleaning. Using thick chemical probably reduce time and extra agitation. Also, if our hair is really dirty, should we wash it twice or just leave our hair with shampoo for more time? We probably leave our hair for a little while and can have same result of washing it twice.

Learning these for elements of cleaning gave me an effectiveness of cleaning. It’s just my part time job, but whenever I clean something, I always think how I can be more effective now. I can be more effective now!

Listening to the spirit

It was so beautiful day to walk around BYU campus. Beautiful sunshine, flowers, and people. I was with the girl who I am going to get marry soon, so the weather seemed more beautiful to me. I was the happiest man in the world. However, as I walked around, I just noticed that so many people were very busy for listening to their music, taking a nap on the grass or talking on the their cell phones with other people. When I noticed these things, something just came up to my mind. “Are we trying to listen to the spirit more than listening to music or taking on the cell phone?” “When can we listen to the spirit?” I know that in our daily lives and also in our every action, listening to the sprit is the most important thing. However, when I saw the busy people, I looked back myself and I thought about how I am doing to listen to the spirit. I also thought about what I am trying to do to listen to the spirit. We are living in a busy world and we are sometimes very busy for doing what we are interested in. However, in order to listen to the spirit, we need to spend more time and put more effort to become worthy than just listening to music. Busy people gave me this lesson and helped me to think about listening to the spirit.
